Types of Contact Lenses

Types of contact lenses vary depending on the type of correction. The type of contact lens recommended for each patient will vary based on your vision needs.

Vision Types:

  • Nearsightedness with Astigmatism
  • Nearsightedness with Astigmatism and Presbyopia (over age 40)
  • Farsightedness
  • Farsightedness with Astigmatism
  • Farsightedness with Astigmatism and Presbyopia (over age 40)
  • Astigmatism
  • Presbyopia (over age 40)
  • Specialty (including multifocal, post LASIK patients, keratoconus, high astigmatism, pellucid degeneration, post surgical corneas and post corneal transplant patients)

These lenses can be used in combination with each other, depending on a particular patient’s needs.  For example, non-multifocal lenses can be used in “monovision” setup as an alternative to multifocal contact lenses.  Here, one eye is corrected with a distance lens and the other with a reading lens in order to give a patient multiple, clear distances.  As another example, bifocal lenses are also now available with and without astigmatism correction.
